You can write or send a card to Sarah at the address above. Even though snail mail has lost popularity in favor of instant electronic exchanges, nothing compares to "mail call" when one is lonely.

Having earned the privilege of a 10-minute call Susan and Sarah talked yesterday. She sounds more committed to recovery than in her previous in-patient experiences. Perhaps because she has made friends with three young women in similar predicaments, she is more focused. We'll learn more as visitation in permitted later in the coming week.

This posting is the 81st in about 18 months. Not in the classsroom but in real life we've acquired some knowledge abou t addiction. C17H17NO(C2H3O2)2 is the highly addictive derivative of morphine known as heroin, Sarah's drug of choice. For further information, here is a website that provides a broad collection of information: http://www.drugabuse.gov/ .

This year our church mission was well timed to our journey with Sarah. Underlying the usual theme of forgiveness and living a simple, honest life was message of finding joy in our lives. Both Susan and I know or work with fine people who are models of joy yet not one is untouched by some unique challenges. Not one is overwhelmed, not one has given up hope. Thank you to all who have reached out with a message of support and encouragement. Sarah will get stronger and we will, too.

More as we know more.
Peace.
