Strings Attached

Hello

We have taken a rest. No, not arrest. A rest taken since late October as we grasp for strings connecting the crisis of addiction to the hope of recovery.

Mental fatigue from the ups and downs of life.

The election cycle. John McCain rested after the election. He must be fatigued! And Barack? Rest will elude him for a while. Good luck with that but there is hope for recovery of what is lost.

The economy? Give it a rest! Stop looking, stop checking, and don't bet on the next bailout either. If history can be relied upon to repeat itself, there is hope for recovery!

The cycle of Sarah's addiction. Crisis --- pleas for help --- bailout --- halfway house --- recovery --- little and big lies --- wrong place, wrong time --- warning signs --- ??? . This has been our last three weeks on the drama of Sarah's life. As long as life continues, there is hope.

Susan visited Sarah this weekend. Susan and I struggle with "enabling" to save Sarah's life versus "enabling" that prolongs her addiction. We do not know whether we've made progress but we are worn down but still together, still with shared hope.

Sarah, we'd love to see you at Thanksgiving but you'll be restricted to the house. No using. No bf. Just family.

Welcome home with heart-strings of hope.

I've been fortunate to talk with Sarah every 3 - 4 days lately. She is such a great person. To be sure, she's struggling, but surviving and doing so with a fair amount of humility. We talked last Friday night for what seemed like close to an hour. We did a lot of laughing and talking about life instead of just recovery. It felt so good, and she said the same.

To be sure, there are some facepalm* situations, but I am very proud of her accomplishments thus far. I hope others who read this give her calls and connect with her. She's got one of my favorite laughs in the world and it can be quite contagious.
