Our favorite time of year! Thanksgiving.
Roadtrips! Long a family tradition, rare is the holiday that doesn't have someone making a trip over the river and through the woods.
This year, Ryan, April and their son Kienan (our grand-buddy) make the trek on I-70 parallel to the Old National Road from Baltimore to Indy this week. What a beautiful trip when the weather cooperates. In their last few adventurous drives, they were trapped in a tornado as it struck the eastside of Indianapolis; another time they slid through the mountains in a storm of snow and ice. With good weather, they will arrive a bit less harried than on previous journeys.
This morning, fortified by Oatmeal and coffee, I headed North on I-69 en route to Ann Arbor. A good traffic flow carried me to Sarah's house just after noon. Fifteen minutes later, the car was packed and we headed back to Indianapolis, stopping only for a fill-up --- for less than half the price of just a few short months ago.
And now the important part! Sarah! Her hugs are great, conversation easy, and even her sleepiness welcome. We want this to be a time of ease, time to rebuild trust, and time for reassurance that she is indeed healthy after last Saturday's hospital visit.
We miss other parts of our family. We miss the big gathering of all but are happy for the low-stress outlook. Perhaps all will unite this summer when Kevin and Kate come from Alaska as Mr. & Mrs. Kevin and Kate.
Thanksgiving Goals? To enjoy and to love. How? To keep things simple and to honor our pre-visit "strings". Patience and understanding.
A Peaceful Thankgiving to all who may read this blog. Thanks to you for your prayers - because of the prayers we are able to enjoy Sarah's presence. Your prayers have gotten Sarah this far - alive.
