As this Blog is entitled "Dad's Thoughts on Addiction" you are hearing my (really "our") thoughts. I also want to thank you for offering continuing prayers. The power of your gift of prayer on behalf of Sarah is needed and appreciated.
My thoughts and reflections are of prayer and of the words of worship, including worship through music and song. Borrowing from Spirit & Song, the link at the end of this post is to Chris Muglia's rendition of "OUR GOD IS HERE".
"... here for the broken, here in our hearts, here in our lives, Our God is Here ... Here where the wounded can be healed".
We do not despair, the light of hope still burns for her recovery.
We're far from perfect. We believe God invites us to bring our petitions to Him even though He already knows our hearts. We pray selfishly for healing; we also pray that His will be done.
With some confidence I know the grace of Sarah's own Baptism, like that of grandson Peter's just over a week ago, will give her strength. At Confirmation Sarah received more grace and gifts: the spirit of [I] wisdom and [2] understanding, the spirit of[3] right judgment and[4] courage, the spirit of[5] knowledge and[6] reverence, and the spirit of[7] wonder and awe in your presence. May those gifts protect her in her battle with the evil one.
"You do not know about tomorrow. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we shall live and we shall do this or that’" (Jas. 4:14–15). We have a promise of healing, but not an unqualified one. It is conditional on the will of God." (Taken from Catholic Answers)
Again, as this blog addresses thoughts about addiction, so to complete my expression, I need to address the faith that sustains us. Most of the references in this post have been copied from web sources we trust. We are guilty of selecting that which we think speaks to our family situation. We're neither schooled in philosophy nor theology but we find meaning and comfort in our faith. Thank you for extending your prayers and understanding. Blogging may be good therapy. Who knows?
Others endure pain and sorrow far greater than we've ever known. Pray for them and relief from their pain. You may be among those, too. Our prayers to God are for you whether in supplication or in thanksgiving.

Remember Pop's favorite prayer?
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change,
Courage to change the things I can and the Wisdom to know the difference. (It has been a help to me in many a difficult time.)
May God's serenity envelop you, and his strength help to sustain you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Love,
Julie
The serenity prayer is the fourth of my four daily prayers - and very calming, very reassuring.
I was just listening to David Byrne's song (that was originally a duet with Selena) "God's Child" from his Austin City Limits performance. Not directly on point, but it can be when many of your thoughts are focused on Sarah (substanitally edited to remove repetitions):
"Who calls this child to walk on her own?
Who leads her down this treacherous road?
She's dancing to a song we can't hear
Walking along 12th street
You should be in school
Sweet little angel, whose child are you?
Come dance with me
God makes us dream, but won't set us free
God calls us dance to songs we can't hear
Song of the vampire
The glory of love
This is our kingdom
But look what we have done
Come dance with me
Come on down
Set me free
Come on down
Dance with me."
Love you, Pops.
(You too, Aunt Julie)
