Running Against the Wind

Quick Post ... maybe it means something, but you have to have experienced "running against the wind" to fully appreciate the lyrics. Maybe I'm just looking for meaning where there is none to be found! Try substituting a new word for "Janey" and one for "she" in the song. Insert the word "drugs" and "they" and correct for person, gender, number, and case. Is there meaning in the song that's relevant to today's musing?

Against the Wind - Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band

It seems like yesterday
But it was long ago
Janey (Drugs, "mj"?) was lovely she was (they were) the queen of my nights
There in the darkness with the radio, playin' low
The secrets that we shared
Mountains that we moved
Caught like a wildfire out of control
'Til there was nothing left to burn and nothing left to prove

And I remember what she said to me
How she swore that it never would end
I remember how she held me, oh so tight
Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then

Against the wind
We were running against the wind
We were young and strong and we were running
Against the wind

The years rolled slowly past
And I found myself alone
Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends
Found myself further and further from my home
I guess I lost my way
There were oh so many roads
I was living to run and running to live
Never worrying about paying or even how much I owed

Moving eight miles a minute for months at a time
Breaking all of the rules that we bent
Began to find myself searching
Searching for shelter again and again

Against the wind
I was running against the wind
I found myself seeking shelter
Against the wind

But those drifter's days are past me now
I've got so much more to think about
Deadlines and commitments
What to leave in, what to leave out

Against the wind
I'm still running against the wind
Well I'm older now but still running
Against the wind
Against the wind
Against the wind....

Variation on Serenity:

Give them, above all, the courage to take up their responsibilities, the wisdom to absorb the best of the past and the happiness that comes from faith in You.

From wikipedia.org: "According to Timothy White, a writer for Rolling Stone, "'Against the Wind' is about trying to move ahead, keeping your sanity and integrity at the same time."

Sounds right. The twist is in doing all that while working on your night moves.

Good post, pops.
